Plymouth-based ex-Royal Marine Charlie sustained a bleed on the brain and other serious injuries, forcing him to leave the career he loved and leaving him feeling lost and vulnerable.

Charlie’s journey has been one of resilience and determination following life-changing injuries that led to him leaving his military career.
Thanks to support from 鶹ɫƬ, Charlie was referred to Veterans Outdoors, a project that provides horticultural therapy to help veterans rebuild their lives.
“They offered me a safe space,” Charlie shares. “They gave me belief and direction again. I didn’t want to go outside at first. But they gave me the confidence, and step by step I found my way back.”
Charlie’s journey of recovery and growth culminated in an incredible achievement at the 2023 Invictus Games, where he won a gold medal and three silvers for swimming.
At the 2025 Invictus Games Charlie added a silver and three bronze medals to his collection!
