Â鶹ɫÇéƬ provides lifelong support to the naval family, and was proud to stand alongside HMS Sherwood as it looks ahead to future operations, including the 2025 Carrier Strike Group deployment.
Hosted by HMS Sherwood alongside the East Midlands University Royal Naval Unit and Royal Marines Reserves, the evening was a blend of tradition and celebration. Guests enjoyed performances by the Royal Marines Band Corps of Drums and Our Dementia Choir, founded by ‘Line of Duty’ star Vicky McClure, with a jazz quartet adding to the vibrant atmosphere. Outside, the Council House façade was adorned with celebratory naval banners, and displays of equipment—including a 20mm cannon—caught the attention of passers-by, including a Robin Hood enactor.
Naval reservist activity in the East Midlands dates back to March 1949, when t a local branch of the Royal Naval Volunteer (Wireless) Reserve was formed in Nottingham. By 1950, the unit had established a home in Nottingham’s Lace Market before later relocating to Carrington Street. In 1984, the unit was renamed HMS Sherwood in honour of the city’s connection to the Second World War destroyer of the same name. Now based in Chilwell, HMS Sherwood serves alongside the local Royal Marines Reserves and continues to play a vital role in operations worldwide.
